UI/UX Design / AmbiCare
Ambicare is an ambient assisted living application that facilitates aging in place by monitoring patient activity and vitals in order to automate actions within their home, establish a link between patient and caregiver, and provide data visualizations of the aging patient directly to the caregiver. It will alert the caregiver if the patient is in immediate danger and will monitor daily activities that become more of a challenge with aging.
I worked with a team of two other Visualization students over the course of the Spring 2023 semester to complete this project. As a team, we conducted user research and market analysis, designed the brand identity, designed the user interface, and prototyped the application. Our final deliverables include a desktop, tablet, and Apple Watch interface.

User Research
User research was conducted through an online survey. We surveyed both family caregivers and healthcare providers who care for elderly patients. From the survey, we hoped to understand what the major pain points are with caring for an elderly patient or loved one and what caregivers would want to see in an application like Ambicare. We also used the survey to collect general data about familiarity and level of comfort with different kinds of smart devices. Based on the responses from our survey, we determined target audeinces and develped several personas to aid in our approach to designing the application, as well as empathy maps and a user journey.

Market Research
Our market research analyzed trends and drivers seen in digital medicine. We also assesed the functionality and UI of direct competitors through a SWOT analysis.
Creative Research
The main goal for our creative research was to determine how to design for elderly users. We also researched color psychology, and assesed our direct competitors' UI in order to develop an interface that appeared friendly and was easy to use by both caregivers and elderly care recipients.
Brand Development
The brand identity for AmbiCare began with a comprehensive moodboard. From there, we determined our brand colors and fonts. The AmbiCare logo features imagery that combines healthcare with connectivity. We utilized Apple's San Francisco UI kit for icons and symbols due to their popularity and legibility, and because we were designing for Apple Watch.
