Waiting to Live is an infographic that explores the implications of being placed on the organ transplant waitlist. I used publically available data from the United Network for Organ Sharing (UNOS) and the Organ Procurement and Transplant Network (OPTN). The infographic includes data visualizations for waitlist additions and removals, waitlist mortality, and donor types.
The largest limiting factor standing between someone and their life-saving organ is donor supply. The goal of this infographic is to illustrate the life-threatening risks of being on the transplant waitlist, and encourage people to register to be an organ donor. You can register to be an organ donor when you apply for a drivers license or online. One deceased donor can save up to 8 lives.
The infographic begins by describing what organ transplantation is and a brief explantion of the waitlist process. Each data visualization also has a short explanation of what the visualization illustrates.
For the layout of the infographic, I took inspiration from medical textbooks and research posters. The primary colors of the infographic are blue and green, which are used by Donate Life to raise awareness about the importance of being an organ and tissue donor.
